Nail the trend: Whirlpool baths
If you’re considering updating your bath or are looking for something extra-special for a brand-new bathroom, then it’s very likely you’ve considered a whirlpool. There are lots of different styles, sizes and shapes of baths available – and that’s before you begin introducing the idea of whirlpool features – so all this choice can sometimes make it confusing about which bath to buy.
Whirlpool baths can be in a corner style, as pictured above, or in a straight design.
Here at Bathshack, however, we have all the facts to hand, so if you want to find out whether a whirlpool might be for you, here’s the lowdown.
Whirlpool bath features
The best place to start is to define what a whirlpool bath is. Simply put, this is a bath akin to those you would find in your favourite spa – if you’re thinking jacuzzi, then you’re on the right track – with moving water that will help you to relax and unwind.
If it’s luxury bathing you’re looking for, then you’ve come to the right place.
Key features of whirlpool baths include:
- High-pressure water jets: These are what whirlpool baths are all about – circular jets are strategically placed around the bath to suck water into a pump before propelling it back into the tub to massage your body.
- Technology: Adjustable water speed, temperature and pressure controls, so you can enjoy your bath just as you like it.
- Size: Whirlpool baths need to be large enough to accommodate the water pump and heater, so a little more space is usually necessary for this type of bath.
- Electric pump: The mechanical tool that powers those all-important water jets – a very important feature of your whirlpool bath! It also keeps the water flow constant.
There are usually a minimum of six to eight jets installed.
We also install:
- A unique V-jet system: Ensures compete drainage of water after use.
- Phoenix Dry-run Pump: For a continuous water supply.
The Solarna Single-ended Bath with Whirlpool System A has jets positioned on the walls of the bath, with operational buttons on the bath ledge.
Benefits of whirlpool baths
There are lots of benefits to installing a whirlpool bath, the main one being that they simply offer an incredibly relaxing, spa-like experience in the comfort of your own home. The combination of the water jets, which massage your body and help to relax muscles and therefore reduce tension, along with the temperature control results in a therapeutic experience while you soak.
Whirlpool baths are also quite economical to run, after the initial investment of installation, so this is another benefit to be aware of when considering the overall value of purchasing one for your home. They’re further available in corner style or in a more traditional rectangular bath shape, meaning you have flexibility in your bath design as well.
In summary, the key benefits of a whirlpool bath include:
- Soothing aching muscles: The warm water jets and massaging motion will soothe tight muscles, helping you to relax and unwind.
- Stress relief: The spa-like experience of water jets and comforting warmth will help you relax, both physically and mentally, so is good for overall wellbeing.
- Boosts circulation: A whirlpool bath offers a form of hydrotherapy, as the warm jet-powered water dilates blood vessels and massages your muscles, thereby increasing blood flow around the body.
- Improved sleep: The combined effects of warm, massaging water and the relaxation which comes with this will ultimately help you to enjoy a better night’s sleep.
- Removal of toxins: The warmth of a whirlpool can help draw more toxins from the skin as the water heats the body and massages the skin, encouraging sweating and driving out impurities.
Whirlpool bath systems: It’s as simple as A, B, C …
When it comes to choosing your whirlpool bath, there are three varieties to consider – very handily named System A, System B and System C. Each one has slightly different features, so we’ve broken this down for you below, to help you decide.
In short, however, which system you chose depends on how you want to customise your whirlpool bath in terms of the number of airflow controls, directional water jets and whether you want to install back and foot-targeted jets. There’s also the option of adding underwater lighting and inline heating, but we’ll come to that shortly.
System A | System B | System C |
On/off switch | On/off switch | On/off switch (Whirlpool and Airspa) |
2X airflow controls | 2X airflow controls
6X directional whirlpool jets | 6X directional whirlpool jets
12X Air Spa jets | 12X Air Spa jets

Choose from seven shades for your optional underwater lighting.
At Bathshack, all our whirlpool baths are made bespoke, so once you’ve decided which system you want, we’ll start creating the bath of your dreams!
If you opt for System A, then we’ll place 12 jet holes around the walls of your bath, including one intake hole and two for the control buttons.
Choosing System B, however, will involve spacing the 12 Air Spa jets on the base of the bath, along with the operational buttons, while System C has double the number of jets set into the bath. These will be arranged on both of the bath walls and base and will also, of course, include those all-important operational buttons.
The choice, as they say, is up to you …

Optional add-on products
Once you’ve chosen the size and shape of your whirlpool bath and which system you prefer, the final key decision to make is about those optional add-ons, which will enhance the spa-like experience even further.
Our add-on whirlpool bath features include:
- Underwater ambient lighting: If you’d like to add a little more atmosphere to your whirlpool bath and create a spa-like mood with some luxury lighting, then this is a no-brainer.
- Inline heaters: Adding an inline heater to your bath will bring with it many extra benefits, primarily in retaining the heat in your water so you can enjoy it for longer. These can be added to any of our whirlpool range except for the Air Spa System 2.
Choose from seven shades, including white, blue, yellow, green, mauve, purple and fuscia. You can set the colour so your favourite always shows or choose the rotating feature and enjoy the full spectrum while you bathe.
NB While inline heaters help keep the water warmer for longer, they do not heat it from cold.
