Employee Spotlight: Salli Hunt

At Bathshack, we have a diverse team of employees who work hard across the business to deliver all of our services. From the showroom, clearance, trade, telesales and customer experience teams to our marketing and eCommerce staff, as well as our business support, warehousing, supply chain and transport employees, there are all sorts of roles within the company.

With this in mind, we thought we’d introduce the faces behind them in our Employee Spotlight feature, where employees will share a bit about what they do at Bathshack, along with some information about themselves.

So, without further ado, let’s shine the spotlight on this month’s employee and get better acquainted …

Employee name: Salli Hunt

Job title: People Partner

What does a typical day look like in your job?

“Every day is different in my job! But I could be doing anything that covers the full life cycle of the employees here at Bathshack – from setting up job descriptions and adverts, screening CVs, interviewing, adding new starters to the system, organising inductions or perhaps even dealing with the odd resignation letter or exit interview.

“I also spend time with managers, helping them with advice and support for anything that might be happening with their people. I could be dealing with health and safety items, such as doing annual fire extinguisher checks and risk assessments, or I could be speaking directly to employees about how things are going in their role. There’s all the obvious HR stuff too, like helping managers manage absence and performance – and then some of the less obvious stuff like keeping our intranet and handbook and policies all up to date!

“I’m also a wellbeing champion, so I might be working with the rest of the team on something charity or wellbeing based. So, as you can see, the days can look VERY different!”

What are the key skills needed for your job role?

“Ethical conduct! Organisation, adaptability, problem-solving, advisory skills, good communications skills, stakeholder management, legal knowledge, training and development, conflict mediation, cultural awareness, recruitment and selection, analysis and data skills, technical skills for HR systems or recruitment systems.”

What’s the most interesting part of your job?

“I LOVE doing data. I’m a bit of an Excel nerd, so if I have to find some information using data, producing pivot tables or graphs – and I have some time to really focus on it – I love that. I also absolutely love telling candidates they got the job – that’s a wonderful part of the job.”

How did you get into this role? (What was your previous job?)

“I worked for a big corporate company for 17 years, firstly in telesales and then in recruitment. I was made redundant during the pandemic as all recruitment had ceased. Just in the lead-up to that, I was doing my CIPD apprenticeship for HR, as I wanted to move more into a HR generalist role. I spent a year on a fixed-term contract in people wellbeing, training and development in another big corporation, before a friend who worked for Bathshack mentioned that a recruiter was needed – and perhaps an HR person down the line. I asked if I could do both roles in one – and here I am … very busy!”

What’s the most useful piece of advice you’ve ever been given – and who gave it?

“Ohhh, this is tricky! I’ve been given lots of great advice over the years. Perhaps to always follow through on commitments I make to people. I learned that in my early years in telesales. It fosters good relationships and gives me credibility that I will always do what I say I’m doing to do.”

How would you describe yourself in three words?

“Approachable, curious, dependable.”

What’s something you’ve accomplished (personal or professional) that you’re really proud of?

“I am the proud owner of the Smith Magenis Syndrome Map. When my son was diagnosed with a rare condition back in 2009, I decided to set up a map of cases across the world, to help connect families and build the community we have today. We have nearly 1,000 members on the map now and I’ve been a part of every single one added. It will be my legacy! Here’s the link if anyone is interested: Click Here.”

What motivates you in your personal and/or professional life?

“Good feedback. I think from my background in sales years ago, I’m a sucker for someone telling me I’m doing a good job. I’m also motivated by my children, of course – they are the reason I work hard, to help give them a great, comfortable life and also to show them the importance of working hard.”

How do you wind down after the working day and at the weekends?

“I run, I spend time with friends and I LOVE to go to the theatre (sometimes performing, sometimes just watching!). I also love a good escape room with my husband and kids!”

Do you have any pets and if so, what do you have?

“Just a fish – and she belongs to the kids, so isn’t mine. We just honour her existence in the house with food!”

If you had to pick a favourite Bathshack product to add to your bathroom, what would you choose?

“Oh, definitely the Viktor Benson Taha Freestanding Double-ended Slipper Bath in Black … But unfortunately, my bathroom isn’t big enough for it!” ☹
