Easy as ABC: Fitting Your Own Bathroom?

You may think that the entire renovation will have to be orchestrated by the professionals and whilst you may need to leave it in their hands for some steps you can do it yourself for others. If you have just one bathroom within your home, thoughts of not being able to use it for any given time is enough to delay any refurbishment. Renewing an entire bathroom can cause a bit of a blip in our daily routines with stress edging its way into the entire process. But, a combination of external and personal work could see the bathroom design you envision transition from blueprints into reality.

Out with the old:

Your first objective will be to determine how you will remove the remnants of your old bathroom. Finding suitable disposal methods will need to be arranged as there will be a lot of waste coming out in order to make way for the new suite. But before you begin to dismantle everything, consider what items you could either up cycle or is worth salvaging.

If you are completely changing your bathroom then this can prove to be advantageous rather than a hassle. You will not need to take extra caution with capping pipes off or avoiding the existing fittings ready to attach any updates. If you decide to dig up all pipes and start from the ground up you can simply cut everything down that you do not need with a saw. Remember to turn off your water supply as you do this, when undertaking such a task the last thing you will need is a flood!

If you want something done well, do it yourself?

Aside from saving money, a good reason to carry out the jobs you are competent in is that it allows you to finish your work in stages. A plumber or whomever else you could hire to fit your bathroom would usually provide you with a bathroom scheme. Planning and designing a space independently will save you from incurring any additional fees should you have a change of heart along the way.

Removing appliances from your bathroom is easier said than done but is far from impossible! If you’re removing a toilet, after turning off the water to the drain system, flushing your toilet will make it a lot easier to move. Never try to lift heavier items such as a bath or sink; this will take two people at the very least. If you have no further plans for them it could make more sense to just break them up but there are various ways you can remove a bathtub.

Remember, when installing a bathroom suite you must first get to grips with building regulations. We know that once you’ve fitted your suite it needs to withstand the test of time. Click here for out tips that could increase your suites lifespan!
