At Bathshack there’s nothing we appreciate more than a stunning bathroom, and while we’re up to our ears in sleek and stylish bathroom suites, fixtures and furniture, there’s more to creating a superb looking bathroom than simply replacing an old suite!
Much like in the world of clothing fashion, styles and trends in modern interior design evolve over the years too, albeit at a slower pace. To ensure your home is stylish and contemporary, it’s always wise to keep tabs on what’s happening in the world of interior design, and how a sharp, innovative home should look.
While it would be far from practical and cost-effective to set about refurbishing and decorating your home each year, there is a lot to be gained from a modern refurbishment if your bathroom is old and outdated, both in terms of the increased value of your home and the enjoyment you and guests will get from the space.
This week we connected with Mark Burke from Cosentino Ireland to get some great insider tips on upcoming bathroom design trends and how to ensure your bathroom is a stylish, modern space!
Hi Mark! Would you kindly share with us your thoughts on creating a modern feel in your home by utilising your bathroom?
“If you like the idea of streamlining your home and giving it a more contemporary feel, consider a wet room. Combining identical wall cladding and flooring is ideal for small areas as you can eliminate the need for a bath screen or traditional tray, reducing the overall cost of additional fixtures and fittings and creating the illusion of space. On the other hand, it can also really add the ‘wow factor’ to larger bathroom areas.”
Those are great ideas, we’ve seen this done and it looks fantastic! Now, what would you say are good ‘rules’ or design schemes to follow when redesigning your bathroom?
“The trend for hotel inspired en-suites continues to increase in popularity – think clean lines, muted colours, double wash basins and spacious walk-in showers. To create the illusion of size, low profile shower trays offer a sleek solution, ideal for smaller spaces.”
That makes a lot of sense, Mark! Do you have any more insider tips on design trends for 2015 that can be applied in the bathroom?
“Marbling is a huge trend for 2015 – be it on soft furnishings, fabrics or surfaces, it’s appearing all over the interior landscape. Cosentino jumped on this trend in late 2014 with the launch of Dekton® Aura, offering marble without the maintenance. Aura’s marble like veining is completely symmetrical slab to slab, giving a mirror effect called ‘bookmatching’. This ensures continuity both vertically and horizontally to adapt to the preferred design.
Other trends that look set to continue centre around neutrals and earthy tones, providing the perfect backdrop for brighter, more adventurous accessories!”
Outstanding! A huge thanks to Mark and all of the guys over at Cosentino Ireland for helping us put together these handy tips to share with our lovely readers! If you decide to use some of Mark’s fantastic tips in your bathroom, be sure to take plenty of pictures and send them over to us, we’d love to see and share them!
